Differences between Investing vs Trading

Roblox is a platform that enables developers and individuals to build and program their own computer games. The Roblox community also enables users to engage with other Roblox games published by fellow users. It started out in 2004, when founders David Baszucki and Erik Cassel wanted to form a platform for user-generated gaming content.

The platform – originally known as DynaBlocks – was rebranded to Roblox in 2006 and it’s remained that way ever since. All Roblox games are free to play, with in-game game purchases the way for developers to monetise their creativity. Users purchase using a cryptocurrency known as Robux. By summer 2020, some 164 million people used the Roblox platform monthly.

With the recent surge in popularity for roblox, many investors are wondering if now is the time to buy RBLX.US stock. However, roblox is not the only company in the game industry and there are several competitors that investors should be aware of before making a decision.

Roblox Corporation's (RBLX.US) main competitors are Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (TTWO), Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA), Activision Blizzard, Inc. (ATVI) and Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. (LYV).

In March 2021, Roblox took the decision to go public via the New York Stock Exchange. During its first day of trading, Roblox shares were traded at a price of $69. Its share price has fallen over 43% since becoming a listed company. Growth stocks have, unsurprisingly, fallen out of favour as the economic headwinds pick up. The Roblox share price has also fallen due to falling engagement levels, although the company is not unduly concerned by this as the levels were inflated during the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the company at something of a crossroads, the Roblox share price appears to have plateaued with a support level between $23-$24 per share. Some investors are also deterred from investing in Roblox at present due to its hefty price-to-sales ratio of 10.4.

If you’re wary of becoming a legitimate shareholder in Roblox Corp, you can always speculate on the value of Roblox shares instead. With contracts for difference (CFD) trading, it’s possible to profit from the rise and fall of equities like Roblox. That’s because you can ‘short’ (sell) the share price of Roblox if you feel its value will decline. For every point that the Roblox share price falls below your entry position, you’ll make a profit.

There’s another bonus with CFD trading too. You can also open leveraged positions on equities like Roblox. This means depositing a small percentage of the overall value of a trade upfront to open a short (sell) or long (buy) position. For instance, if 10:1 leverage was offered, you’d only need to deposit 10% to get ten times the actual exposure in the market – effectively increasing your potential profits (or losses) tenfold.

FAQs

Are Roblox shares a good investment?

+ -

Roblox is a pretty solid company from a financial standpoint. The company has been profitable for the last years and has no debt. In terms of growth potential, Roblox is in a great position. The company's user base is growing rapidly, and it has plans to expand its business into new markets. However, there are some risks to consider before investing in Roblox. First, the company is still relatively small, so it could be vulnerable to competition. Second, the stock is trading at a high valuation, so there is downside risk if the company fails to meet investor expectations.

Who owns most Roblox shares?

+ -

There are a few different ways to answer this question, depending on how you define 'most'. If you're talking about the biggest single shareholder, that would be founder and CEO David Baszucki, who owns approximately 34% of the company. However, if you're talking about the largest institutional shareholder, that would be Altos Ventures, which owns approximately 15% of the company. Finally, if you're talking about the largest individual shareholder (excluding Baszucki), that would be hedge fund manager Steve Rubin, who owns approximately 9% of the company.

Do Roblox shares pay dividends?

+ -

No, Roblox does not currently pay dividends. There are a few reasons why Roblox may start paying dividends in the future. First, as the company continues to grow and become more profitable, it will have more cash on hand to pay out to shareholders. Second, paying dividends would make the stock more attractive to investors, which could help drive up the stock price.

Of course, there is no guarantee that Roblox will start paying dividends in the future. It all depends on the company's financial situation and whether the Board of Directors believes it is in the best interests of shareholders.
