Differences between Investing vs Trading

Bayer AG is a German multinational pharmaceutical and life sciences company founded in 1863. It is headquartered in Leverkusen, where its main research and development facilities are located.

The company's biggest event in recent years was the acquisition of Monsanto in 2018, making Bayer one of the world's largest suppliers of seeds and crop protection products. Bayer is organized into three main business units: Pharmaceuticals, Consumer Health, and Crop Science. Its former materials science business was separated from the group as Covestro in 2015.

Bayer is a member of the DAX, an index of the 40 largest German companies trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

Bayer completed its acquisition of Monsanto in 2018. Its share price fell sharply in the years that followed, as the company faced a large number of lawsuits in the US over the Roundup weed killer. Bayer has maintained that Roundup is safe.

In 2024, Bayer cut its dividend to the legal minimum to reduce its debt. The Roundup litigation and the company's debt are among the factors investors follow when trading the stock.

Investing in Bayer stock means that you will own a part of the company. This can give you certain rights as a shareholder, such as the right to vote at shareholders' meetings or receive dividends (if the company pays them). However, investing also comes with risks. The value of your investment can go down as well as up, and you may not get back the full amount you invested.

Trading Bayer stock with Skilling is executed via Stock CFDs, allowing investors to speculate on price movements without physical ownership of the underlying shares. This means that you do not have any rights as a shareholder. CFD trading offers a more flexible way to trade Bayer stock than traditional investing, suited to shorter-term goals.

However, it is important to remember that CFDs are leveraged products, which means that losses can build quickly. Negative balance protection is provided to eligible retail clients, so you cannot lose more than your account balance.
