Aixtron is one of Germany’s major players in the semiconductor industry. It specialises in the production of metalorganic chemical vapour deposition equipment. In recent years, Aixtron has increased its market share in the MOCVD system subsector, rising from 48% in 2019 to 75% in 2021. At present, the firm’s technology solutions are manufacturing state-of-the-art components suitable for both electronic and optoelectronic applications. They do so using organic, compound and silicon semiconductor materials.
When it comes to Aixtron’s target markets, as of 2020, almost three-quarters of its revenues were generated from clients in Asia. The rest was derived from the US (12%) and European firms (15%). At the time of writing, Aixtron’s major manufacturing plants are in Aachen, Germany and Cambridge, England. At the end of October 2022, Aixtron confirmed it was increasing its growth forecast for the year based on a “strong order situation”, which was up 13% year-on-year. The firm also revealed it had grown its gross margin via an improved product mix.
The Aixtron share price has enjoyed a very strong 2022. As of November, the price of Aixtron stock had risen over 56%. Of course, this is no barometer for future growth, but it underlines the growing demand for Aixtron’s semiconductor products.
Looking back throughout the history of Aixtron stock as a publicly listed concern, Aixtron saw its share price peak at the dawn of the new millennium and the ‘Dotcom boom’. It reached an all-time high of €82, which it has never come close to emulating in subsequent years so far. One of the benefits of investing in Aixtron shares in recent years has been the shareholder dividends. Between 2017-2022, total shareholder returns equated to 235%. This alone is greater than the return on its share price during that period.
Why trade the Aixtron share price instead of buying shares and retaining them for the future? The ability to trade shares like Aixtron gives you the flexibility to go long (buy) or short (sell), especially if you use a contracts for difference (CFD) broker. This means you can profit even if the company’s stock falls, giving you two ways to earn instead of one.
The semiconductor industry is certainly a fast-growing market to watch. In 2021, sales of semiconductors were up 26.2% year-on-year, hitting $555.9 billion. By 2027, the industry is forecast to generate sales worth $726.73 billion.
