Differences between Investing vs Trading

The Euro (EUR) and the Swedish Krona (SEK) have been actively traded on the forex market since 1999. The latter was launched on January 1, 1999, and was part of an economic and monetary union between countries within the Eurozone.
The Swedish Krona has been the official currency of Sweden since 1873. This currency replaced the riksdaler as part of the Scandinavian Monetary Union that introduced native versions of the Krona to Denmark and Sweden.

The Swedish Krona’s code on the forex exchange market is SEK. This means you can trade the Swedish Krona against a variety of currencies, including the Euro. The EUR/SEK price in 1999 was 1/ 9.4. Today, EUR/SEK trades around the same price.

The EUR/SEK price has remained fairly consistent. The exchange rate opened at 1 Euro to 9.4 Swedish Krona in 1999. It spiked to 1/11.5 in 2009 following a period of stagnation during the 2008 financial crisis.

Euro is the second most traded currency in the world which, by default, makes the EUR/SEK currency pair popular. It’s not the most popular currency pair by trading volume, but it’s still a forex market with enough liquidity for retail traders.

Forex trading allows you to speculate on the price movements of currency pairs, including EUR/SEK. Currencies are listed in pairs because you’re trading the value of one against the other. To put it another way, you’re exchanging one currency for another. Therefore, when you look at the EUR/SEK price, you’re looking at two currencies: the base and the quote currency.

The base is listed on the left of the backslash, the quote currency is listed on the right. The EUR/SEK price looks at how much of the quote currency (SEK) you need to buy one unit of the base currency (EUR). Going long on EUR/SEK means you believe the base currency will increase in value compared to the quote. If you go short, you believe the quote currency will increase in value compared to the base.
